Water Safety

General guidelines:

  • We only go to water that has life guards (except for some of our Overnight camping trips)
  • If any life preserving items are provided (ie; lifejacket, puddle jumper), children must wear them at all times while in the water.
  • Camper to counsellor ratio in the water is 1:5 for younger campers and 1:8 for older campers
  • We do not permit any children to go past their armpits
  • Multiple staff are always in the water with the kids

Lac Philippe specific water safety

  • The beach is roped off and lifeguarded beach
  • We designate a much smaller space (ie; between two cones) for the kids to swim between to facilitate supervision.
  • Multiple staff are always in the water with the kids, with one staff at the deepest point of where children are allowed to swim, to ensure nobody goes too deep or goes beyond the perimeter we set to the sides.
  • We do not permit any children to go past their armpits, and with staff swimming in the water, most of the children typically want to hang out with them in the more shallow waters anyways.
  • The beach has a very gentle entry, meaning kids need to go out quite far to get to a point where they would not be able to touch.
